Jess Shadbolt and Clare de Boer of King just won best new chefs of 2018 and for a good reason. I first saw them on my flight to Aspen for the Food & Wine festival and they could not have been more humble (and genuinely friendly!). Their restaurant, opened in September 2016, is French/New American and upscale but feels just like your neighborhood spot.

The menu changes daily and offers very few items (i.e., don’t come here with picky eaters). To start, they have a few snacks, usually some type of cured meat and chickpea fry. Highlights of the meal (in my opinion) were the fettucine with rabbit ragu (pictured above) and the sirloin over rosemary branches and peppers - I think any pasta and meat dish here you can’t go wrong. The wine is expensive (mid-20s for a glass) so be mindful when ordering. The space is very intimate so would suggest going for a date night or with a group of four close friends
